Rounds Rock Loop (Easy)
Bottom Line: Get into an easy sort of adventure close to Greylock Summit! Great overlook way up high, feels out-of-the-way. On the flatter side, but with fun variable trail hiking.
I discovered this loop on the fly driving back to North Adams from Red Shirt Farm store in Lanesborough, MA. Great spot for farm fresh produce, Hexagon Bagels, and other great local products. We decided to do a hike on the way back and figured let’s take the scenic byway over Mount Greylock and pick a trail from one of the numerous trailheads along the 16-mile newly paved road (a great experience in its own right if you can’t hike it,). We only could do a short hike and wanted something without a lot of climbing. We had never been to some of the more southern sections of the 12,500+ acre park. I saw that you could do a 2.5 mile loop that hits Rounds Rock—which I had never been to in my 3+ years here in the Berkshires.
Well, turned out to be a great idea. It was not much longer than an hour, with a good stopover at the overlook, which was gorgeous! Looking south towards Connecticut. Otherwise lovely off-the-beaten-path forest trails that meander up a bit and then a bit down. Super nice forest bathing if you ask me. No struggle to go uphill or trepidation going down.
A little adventure about 1.5 hours, without much uphill—and a great view!
